Physicians and residents-in-training in three emergency departments of Genesys Health System in Michigan have disposed of their Dictaphones and voluminous paper charts. They now document patient information electronically with
T-SystemEV, the electronic charting, tracking and laboratory retrieval system by
T-System Technologies, Inc.
Genesys Regional Medical Center
in Grand Blanc, and two smaller emergency campuses in Flint, totaling
84,000 annual patient visits, implemented
T-SystemEV this week.
"It was a real pleasure working with this group. They've done a great job," said Mike Scott, VP of Deployment Services, referring to the health care and information technology staffs at Genesys. He added, "All the physicians have a positive attitude and are really excited about electronic applications."
Hank Landsgaard, D.O., FACEP, emergency department faculty member, listed some goals for implementing
T-SystemEV. "We're looking for a less expensive way to document. We wanted better documentation, better reimbursement and no overtime," he explained. In addition, the E.D. is working toward improved integration with the larger hospital information system.
The sites have been live with
T-SystemEV for a few weeks, and according to Landsgaard, "We're making the transition. We're still working on a few issues." He reports the two satellite emergency centers, Genesys East Flint and Genesys West Flint, are catching on fastest due to lower acuity. Some benefits of
T-SystemEV were seen right away. "The documentation turnaround time is now immediate and there are no stacked charts," Landsgaard noted. "Thirty seconds after completing documentation, it goes to the hospital information system."
Mike Scott reports additional positive feed back from they facility's medical records department. "They're happy about going paperless with
T-SystemEV for several reasons. They no longer have files everywhere, and they're pleased to get timely charts that are much more legible. They used to have incomplete patient files on hand for two weeks or more.
T-SystemEV helped eliminate that."
