Increases revenue by $50,000+ in three months
The right emergency care partner can provide the key to securing a hospital's bottom line. The Memorial Medical Center ED in Port Lavaca, Texas treats approximately 10,100 patients annually and has been using EV™ since 2009. While the ED has made impressive improvements since its go-live in terms of quality of patient care and documentation, hospital leaders recognized the need to have optimized processes in addition to the right tool. As a result, they requested T-System's RevCycle+® consulting services.
T-System conducted a thorough review of documentation from physicians to evaluate the quality of their documentation. Physician education was deemed necessary after some inconsistencies were discovered. T-System also reviewed the coding staff's work and determined that there was a pre-training code variance rate of 43 percent on the physician side, attributed to confusion regarding the medical decision-making complexity for provider coding.
T-System also completed a charge master gap analysis and made recommendations based on the findings. Since T-System performed this consulting work, Memorial Medical Center ED Manager Teresa Miller reports that the ED has seen a $50,000 increase in revenue between February and May 2012.
In addition to providing physician consulting services, T-System offered Memorial Medical Center assistance with its facility charges.
"One of the first things we did as a result of T-System's recommendations was implement hard stops," said Miller. "By doing so, Memorial Medical Center is no longer losing revenue on hydrations and infusions. The changes we made as a result of the RevCycle+ consulting services have had a huge and almost immediate impact to our bottom line."
Miller said Memorial Medical Center's next big goal is to attest to Stage 2 Meaningful Use.
