Speaker: Mark Pilarski, vice president and CTO, T-System

Care Continuity™: Thinking Outside of the (ED) Box

Providing excellent care in the ED is an important part of the care continuum. Just as critical is what happens to the patient after ED discharge. Learn how to improve patient outcomes by focusing on seamless patient transitions. This session will show you how to use Care Continuity to communicate and collaborate with the care team to reduce readmissions, promote patient satisfaction, enhance alignment with referring physicians and keep patients in network.

Speaker: Robin Shannon, Robin Shannon, RN, MSN, MBA, director of documentation solutions, T-System

What's new in EV™? Getting the Most Out of EV Upgrades

How can you and your team realize the benefits of EV upgrades? Focusing on service patches 1 and 2, T-System clinical education specialists will share the benefits of our most recent upgrades and illustrate how to efficiently incorporate into your ED workflow.

Speakers: T-System clinical education specialists

Secrets to Achieving Meaningful Use with EV™

Due to the volume of patients and the dedicated staff, the ED can be the key to Meaningful Use - but only with the right solution. EVversion 4 provides you with the right certified technology and important benefits to ensure your success. Attendees will hear success strategies using EV to help you attain required thresholds, learn about new DIRECT functionality to help with the "Transitions of Care" measures and receive guidance for how to document Meaningful Use metrics in EV.

Speaker: Robert Hitchcock, M.D., FACEP, chief medical informatics officer, vice president, T-System

EV™ Analytics: Measure for Success

In times of rapid growth and change, knowing your metrics is more important than ever. From dashboards that allow you to quickly assess the efficiency of daily operations, to analytics that allow you to synchronize supply and demand, to data that allows you to assess the impact of your decisions, T-System has many solutions to help you achieve better clinical, financial and operational outcomes. This session will focus on using data to drive success in your ED.

Speaker: Don Beisert, product management, T-System

EV™: Content Changes for Improved Documentation

Documentation is a very important part of the patient care experience in every ED. How well does your team document the patient visit? Do they complete random peer chart audits for your providers and nurses? We will take a look at what is new in EV content for nurses and physicians in addition to looking at two new T-System documentation options.

Speakers: Kathy Mace, RN, SANE, performance optimization expert, T-System

Your ED CAHPS Game Plan: Strategies for Excelling Your ED Patient Perception Performance

Patient perception matters and this year you have a new government-mandated survey to measure it. Not only must it be administered, but soon your ED's reimbursement will be tied to your performance. According to recent studies, 50% of hospitals are not actively preparing for ED CAHPS changes. Be in the half that is ready. Get prepared and learn new strategies for ensuring excellence.

Speaker: Janie Schumaker, RN, BSN, MBA, CEN, CPHQ, FABC, associate administrator, emergent/urgent services, Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, MO; Chair Person, Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing

Strategies to Reduce Avoidable Readmissions

Most hospitals focus on the inpatient care areas when addressing avoidable readmissions, but with as many as 50-75% of all hospital admissions originating in the ED, a comprehensive strategy to prevent financial penalties must include this critical area. This session will help you learn to identify high-risk patients, develop proactive interventions and create a collaborative team to reduce avoidable readmissions.

Speakers: Robin Shannon, RN, MSN, MBA, director of documentation solutions, T-System

Workflow and Your Metrics

Workflow and metrics have a direct correlation. Are your metrics a "picture" of how efficient your ED is currently? If the metrics are not a true "picture", why not? We will take a look at ED workflow and the best practices that we see across the EDs that use EV. Be prepared for group discussion, what works and what doesn't. We will also take a look at the metrics you find in EV. How do you measure up to other EV™ users of like volume? Where can you find that information and more?

Speakers: Kathy Mace, RN, SANE, performance optimization expert , T-System

Regulatory Changes Update

Healthcare is changing faster than ever; driven by a seemingly endless array of regulations from the alphabet soup of federal and state agencies. This session will review the latest finalized and proposed regulations with a focus on how they may affect emergency care. Topics include reimbursement impacts of OPPS and IPPS, the "two midnight rule", SGR fixes, PQRS, Meaningful Use and others.

Speakers: Robert Hitchcock, M.D., FACEP, chief medical informatics officer, vice president, T-System

What to Do When the Government Comes Knocking

When CMS, The Joint Commission and OIG visit your hospital, does your staff panic or calmly anticipate their visit? Don't panic; formulate a strategy for managing a successful visit. Attendees will receive guidance for the following:

1. Responding to their requests
2. Preparing your staff for the visit
3. What to expect
4. What to do when they are gone

Speaker: Charlotte Nafziger, director of compliance, T-System

ICD-10 Readiness Planning: New Timeline, Same Impact

ICD-10 has been delayed giving hospitals more time to prepare. While it's a significant burden to coders, it's also much, much more; ICD-10 will impact documentation, productivity and reimbursement. Attend this session to plan your roadmap for success.

Speaker: Robert Hitchcock, M.D., FACEP, chief medical informatics officer, vice president, T-System

EV™ to MEDITECH and Back

In 2011, Madison Memorial Hospital terminated EV™ and converted to MEDITECH in their ED. Almost immediately they witnessed significant clinical, operational and financial problems - the later to the tune of $180K per year. Today, with the return to EV, outcomes have rebounded and their ED helped them achieve a successful Meaningful Use attestation. Attend this session to hear their experience and get the lowdown on the deficiencies that caused the problems.

Speaker: Alan Brower, RN, ED nursing director, Madison Memorial Hospital, Rexburg, ID

Scribes and Your EMR: A Prescription to a Healthy ER

Not just for data entry, scribes can bring significant added value to your ER when used in conjunction with an EMR. In order to achieve this, they must first be educated on the goals and priorities of your clinical team. Join this session to hear new ideas on how to better leverage scribes and learn how to effectively design a scribe education program to bring true clinical transformation. Deon is an emergency department nurse with over 18 years of experience in the industry, experienced in clinical workflow, medical documentation, EMR implementation and practice efficiency.

Speaker: Deon Melton, RN, director of education and clinical transformation, ProScribe

Making the ED Profitable

EV™ is often underutilized in regards to observation documentation. When documented correctly, observation services can dramatically increase profitability. In this session, Dr. Lawson will share how his ED became the great contributing profit center of the hospital by leveraging the existing capabilities of EV.

Speaker: Kenneth Lawson, M.D., chief of emergency medicine, Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital, MA

Using EV™ With a Two Tier Triage/Registration System

Even without a designated triage nurse, patients can receive an efficient and comfortable experience that will not strain the flow of your department. In this session, you will learn how a small ED using a unique two-tier triage/registration system maintains efficient door-to-provider times and ED throughput.

Speaker: Kelly Boardley, BSN, CEN, cardiac and stroke coordinator, emergency department educator, Cascade Valley Hospital, Arlington, VA

How to Optimize Reimbursement for Emergency Physician Performed Bedside Ultrasound

Emergency physician performed bedside ultrasound has become the new standard of care for both diagnostic and procedural care. Bedside ultrasound exams are performed, captured, and interpreted differently than traditional studies that take place in labs or departments. Most hospitals and EDs do not bill for these services despite the increasing use of bedside ultrasound. Bedside ultrasound can be reimbursed as a separate billable procedure if all the required components are met and can improve hospital and physician reimbursements outside of any direct billing. Attendees will learn the required steps to optimize reimbursement for emergency physician-performed bedside ultrasound at their facilities.

Speaker: Richard Cole, M.D., MPH, clinical Instructor of Emergency Medicine, University of Texas Health Sciences, Houston

Medication Safety: Documenting EMS "Prior to Arrival" Meds

Charting medications given prior to hospital arrival by EMS is important for the continuum of patient care. By modifying their charting process, Memorial Hospital was able to provide a more complete nursing summary of care communication and medication administration record. The presenters will discuss their process and explain how to chart medications given prior to hospital arrival to eliminate duplicate medications and reduce medication errors.

Speakers: Ryan Young RN, BSN & Donna McCord, RN, BSN, Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center, Jasper, IN

Emerging Care Models: My Experience Moonlighting in a Freestanding ER & Lessons Learned

As lifestyles evolve to expecting more service on-demand, so does the delivery of healthcare. Freestanding emergency care centers are rapidly becoming one of the fastest growing new treatment areas with double-digit growth in the past decade and rising. While similar to hospital ERs in form and function, practicing in this new and emerging care model is an entirely different experience. Hear lessons learned from Dr. Bob Hitchcock, T-System's CMIO and a practicing ER physician and the CMO of First Choice ER, a multisite freestanding emergency care system in Colorado and Texas.

Speakers: Robert Hitchcock, M.D., FACEP, chief medical informatics officer, vice president, T-System & Mike Muzzarelli, M.D., executive medical director for First Choice Emergency Room
